DNA- The Crime Scene

Today was a great day of teaching!! Often we as educators are afraid to let the students loose to explore learning in the classroom. However, today I took a deep breath and allowed the students to get down and dirty in science class. It was so exciting setting up the crime scene. Not only was I excited, but the students were excited and couldn't wait to get to science class to see what was going on inside the room.

I had the classroom set up as a crime scene along with play blood, a murder weapon, and many other objects that was evidence. To spark the students curiosity I taped crime scene tape at the front door. This really sparked conversation about what was going on in the classroom.

The students really got into the lesson. So, I say don't be afraid to do something totally different to ignite learning on a different level. Many of our students are visual learners and need all of their senses stimulated. So, go ahead and be bold and let the students enjoy your lesson. They might surprise you!!
